‘It’s what’s inside that counts’. That was the thinking behind our regeneration of the old BBC building, vacant for 7 years but then refurbished and repositioned into the UGLI Campus; a contemporary, vibrant workplace that’s lovely on the inside and……well, lovely on the inside.
Our bold and irreverent approach was targeted squarely at the media and creative industries, and the result was a full building of 700 occupiers within 11 months. Not bad for our little UGLI duckling.
Focussing on the repositioning of the existing space rather than starting from scratch meant that we knew we’d be able to keep the terms offered to occupiers competitive. But our £500,000 investment gave us much more than just a fresh lick of paint; it allowed us to build a fun, fresh, dynamic environment that sat uniquely within its iconic ‘ugly’ framework. The result is an environment that is not only cost effective, flexible and inspiring for these businesses, it’s also a platform where each one can benefit from being part of the growing cluster.
The building continues to run at 100% capacity at all times. This is thanks in part to the vibrant community environment we continue to foster through a series of target-friendly initiatives such as networking events, ‘Boozey Thursdays’ once a month for occupier mingling, filming and photo shoots on site, and a diverse range of speaker events.
